Netflix Update

May 5th, 2009 | by mmb5 |

Sorry this has been slower than anticipated.

The Movie Hero: Boring with a capital ‘B’.  It’s the story about how movies can be overly cliche, which it managed to be way too meta.  1 star.

The Dish: Cute film, nothing objectionable.  4 stars.  Craig moves on.

Moving On:
Susannah – Dark Knight
Mark – The Shawshank Redemption (has picked Sneakers for Round 2)
Phil C. – The Verdict
Jim M. – Frozen River
Rogers – Barbarians at the Gate
Perry – Man on Wire
Greg – Grizzly Man (has picked Sorcerer for Round 2)
Craig – The Dish

Yet To Watch:
Snowed – Cat Ballou
Dwight – The TV Set
Carey – Free Enterprise
Michael – Interstate 60

Not Moving On:
Joe – A Lion in Winter
Chris – Hamlet II
Matt Z. – The Movie Hero

Movies I’ve Seen Since But Not on the List (to help you with your next choice)
The Room – 0 stars, but is simply the best worst movie ever made.  It’s never boring.  See it if you get a chance, your life is incomplete without it.
Thank You For Smoking – well, it was a slow Saturday and it was on Comedy Central.  It was OK.

OK since I’ve made it to round 2….I suggest “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.

I have noticed I seem to be the only person recommending movies that are both current and popular…hmm….

And if is this is truly like “Survivor”, how do I make an alliance? And with whom? Is there a trophy at the end? So many questions!

My round 2 selection was *Sneakers*, assuming you’ve not already seen it.

I had a good feeling that Barbarians at the Gate would get me into the second round. Hilarious made-for-cable movie.

My next suggestion, inspired by The Verdict, is another ’80s Paul Newman flick, Absence of Malice.

Query: As I am unfamiliar with Netflix and unsure of the rule of the contest, can we recommend one disc of a mini-series?
If so, then I have my next recommendation.
If not, I shall keep thinking…

I would like actual movies if at all possible. I will see John Adams in due course.

The More You Know: Netflix delivers mini-series/TV series via individual disc.

OK, I’m glad to see what you knew where I was going with that, I thought that was the case, and my new recommendation is Hot Fuzz from 2007.

I’m going to select Son of Rambow.

I feel so rejected. I think the movie I recommended received the worst review of any that Mike has doled out. So much for being the next Roger Ebert. Hey, Roger Ebert. That’s what I should have recommended- Valley of the Dolls. Then I would have gotten through for sure. Maybe next time.

I did not recommend Absence of Malice (someone else was inspired by my Verdict choice and chose that. I would never recommend ANYTHING with Sally Field in it.

How about the Guns of the Navarone?

    Phil C
